BEFORE & AFTER
BREAST CANCER RECONSTRUCTION
Breast cancer reconstruction is very dear to Dr. Christie. She has built her practice on helping patients with breast cancer and continues to keep this part of her practice a priority. She utilizes the best technique for each patient based on their cancer needs. Dr. Christie’s background in general surgery where she performed breast cancer operations gives her the ability to understand both the oncologic needs and reconstructive needs. She works very closely with your breast oncologist to execute a customized treatment plan. She looks at reconstruction as a long-term partnership and always makes herself available for her patients.
ONCOPLASTIC BREAST RECONSTRUCTION
Oncoplastic breast reconstruction utilizes breast reduction or mastopexy techniques during the time of cancer resection. This type of reconstruction is for patients who have chosen breast conservation with lumpectomy and may require radiation postoperatively. Dr. Christie utilizes the opportunity to perform a cosmetic breast lift or reduction while the cancer is being removed. Often a reduction or lift will be performed on the other breast at the same time for symmetry. A thorough consultation with your breast oncologist and plastic surgeon determines whether you are a good candidate for this procedure.
Many patients have scars from trauma or previous surgeries that are unsightly. You will always have a scar but the goal is to make it less noticeable. Dr. Christie will assess your scar burden and determine whether surgical revision is required or non-surgical modalities can be utilized. For patients who have traumatic lacerations that were repaired in an emergent setting, you can improve the scar appearance with early intervention if needed.
Abdominal wall reconstruction can be complex. Dr. Christie’s background in general surgery has given her experience in abdominal operations and hernia repairs. She combines these skills with her reconstructive techniques to repair abdominal wall defects and hernias. These cases are often performed in combination with a general surgeon for larger operations.
MOH’S SKIN CANCER RECONSTRUCTION
Dr. Christie performs excision of suspicious moles and lesions that could be skin cancer. She also reconstructs defects of the face and body created by Mohs Surgery (a dermatologic technique that removes certain types of skin cancer).
