Temporal Brow Treatment
Brow lifts are another powerful technique in facial rejuvenation. Aging changes the skin quality and volume of our upper face, making a heaviness to the upper face and lower positioning of eyebrows noticeable. While non-surgical options exist, surgical brow lifts hold the power of a permanent result without the need for chemical paralysis allowing animation with a more natural look and feel.
Dr. Christie’s 360-approach to upper facial rejuvenation includes treatment of the three components of aging: Skin Quality, Skin Laxity, and Volume. Studies show that patient satisfaction with brow lifts is very high.
A Tailored Touch
Dr. Christie performs four standard brow lift techniques:
During your appointment, Los Angeles Brow Lift provider Dr. Christie will listen to your facial concerns, review your options, and create a specific treatment plan that meets your aesthetic goals. Determining which brow lift best fits your profile includes forehead length, hairline recession, forehead animation patterns, and current brow positioning.
This method, often known as a classic or open brow lift, was pioneered in the 1980s. The coronal brow lift (which results in a full-length incision along the hairline) corrects eyebrow asymmetry and can shift the hairline upwards or downwards to shorten or lengthen the forehead. This technique is utilized when hairline advancement is desired in combination with a brow lift.
This older approach works best in patients with prominent forehead rhytids (wrinkles) who need a more powerful elevation post closest to the brow. The scar is typically hidden in a forehead wrinkle, and favorable scarring is required for this procedure. Elderly patients with visual field obstructions from brow ptosis typically use this technique.
With Dr. Christie’s comprehensive approach to all areas of facial rejuvenation, surgical access during a brow lift provides the perfect opportunity to address any existing volume loss with the restoration of volume within natural anatomic locations. Dr. Christie likes to restore the fat pad within the deep temporal fascia, which is accessible at the time of surgery.
The underlying cause of brow ptosis is aging of the skin (or change in skin quality) in combination with gravity and volume loss. Combining skin resurfacing with your brow lift can be the ideal time to address skin quality. Adding laser technology to your lift will encourage remodeling of the skin by resurfacing at a deep cellular level.
Historically, cosmetic surgery was reserved for those with significant signs of aging. Their results were remarkable, yet everyone could tell they had recently undergone surgery. Approximately one-third of people seeking facial rejuvenation surgery today are between the ages of 35 and 50, and with Dr. Christie's preventative anti-aging strategies, less invasive enhancements earlier can give you a seamless, more natural aging process.
Many of our Los Angeles Brow Lift patients choose to combine their brow lift procedure with fat grafting and/or other facial sculpting surgeries, such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or rhinoplasty. During a personalized consultation, Dr. Christie will take the time to answer your questions and help you figure out which procedures will help you reach your goals. Discover New Changes
Our Los Angeles brow lift patients usually have a temporal brow lift performed as an outpatient operation under anesthesia. The procedure typically takes one to two hours (depending on the combination of procedures performed). Local anesthesia is injected into both temples, and two very small incisions are made just beyond the hairline. Dissection is performed via these small incisions to elevate the lateral portion of the face. The fascia is then resuspended with sutures, and any excess skin is removed simultaneously. The incisions are closed with extreme care to preserve hair follicles around the scar, allowing invisible healing.
You’ll Wish You Did This Sooner
Temporal Brow Lifts are one of Dr. Christie’s favorite procedures to perform and are a powerful way of rejuvenating the upper face. Surgical access from this procedure provides the ideal opportunity to address all the categories of aging. In terms of a preventative approach, this procedure is best undertaken before major signs of forehead aging occur. For those who have been using non-surgical modalities to lift brows, this surgical technique provides a much more natural way to rejuvenate the upper face.
Take Time to Heal
Mild swelling and bruising can occur after surgery and resolves within one week. Pain is most often managed with over-the-counter pain medications. The recovery is relatively short, and Dr. Christie’s accelerated recovery protocols allow her professional, patient population to return to work quickly. Activity restrictions remain in place for up to two weeks, and can be tailored to each patient.
In comparison to other types of cosmetic surgery, a brow lift has minimal side effects or complications. However, certain risks include nerve injury, alopecia at the incision site, and swelling or bruising can occur. Dr. Christie will discuss risks in detail during your preoperative visit.
During your session, Dr. Christie will review surgical and non-surgical options for a brow lift procedure. As an invasive procedure, a surgical brow lift might require up to two weeks of recuperation. However, it is the most successful way to change the appearance of your forehead. Non-surgical upper face rejuvenation is possible using botox and dermal fillers for those who feel that they are not ready for surgical intervention.
You will have small scars well hidden within the hairline and generally not visible once healed. Dr. Christie likes to ensure the preservation of hair follicles in and around the scar with a very careful and precise incision technique. For those at risk for alopecia or with advanced stages of hairline recession, Dr. Christie will add hair rejuvenating techniques to encourage hair restoration at the scar site.
Yes, a brow lift can correct uneven eyebrow positioning if the problem is simply a skin length difference. It is a commonly used procedure to correct eyebrow positioning.
