Body Confident

Breast Lift in Los Angeles, CA | Revitalize Saggy Breasts | Dr. Christie Plastic Surgery

Over time, the impact of gravity and the loss of natural tone and suppleness can impact your appearance. This is true for your entire body, but especially your breasts. Pregnancy and breastfeeding stretch the skin and frequently leave behind a loss of fullness and an aged appearance. But this doesn’t have to be permanent. You can restructure the breasts and return to a lifted and beautiful aesthetic appearance with a mastopexy, more commonly known as a breast lift. With a breast lift Los Angeles based double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christie can help you achieve a more confident appearance with a breast lift that reflects your frame and your personal aesthetic preferences.

Rejuvenated Placement

What is Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?

Breasts can lose their shape, volume, or elasticity due to aging, pregnancy, and weight changes. Dr. Christie says, “gravity always wins!” You may start noticing your breasts sit lower, look deflated, your nipples are pointing downward, and/or you are starting to feel uncomfortable with how your breasts look in clothing.

A breast lift helps reverse the aging of the breast by repositioning and reshaping the breasts. A breast lift treatment alone will not add volume. A breast lift is often performed in conjunction with other breast enhancement procedures for an overall improved look of your breasts. For women who have also had volume loss, a breast implant may also be added for volume replacement. Meticulous attention to scar healing is a very important part of this procedure as you are exchanging improved shape for scars — although that can be minimized. Dr. Christie employs a variety of non-surgical techniques in combination with surgery to enhance your end results!

A Dynamic Difference

Am I a good candidate for a Breast Lift?

You are a good candidate for surgery if you are healthy and have positive surgical expectations. Before making any suggestions, Dr. Christie will look at the size, shape, distribution, and ptosis (sagging) of your natural breast tissue to see if you are a good candidate for breast lift surgery. A breast lift may be right for you if you have any of the following:

  • Different-sized breasts
  • Breasts that sag or hang
  • Downward pointing nipples
  • Breasts that appear flat or “pancaked”
  • Nipples or areolas that are below the natural breast crease

Personalized Just for You

Your Breast Lift Procedure

After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Christie will suggest the best technique for your breast size, level of sagging, and desired results. During the procedure, she will carefully remove any extra skin, change the shape of the breast, and move the nipple to the most attractive place for your body type. You won't have to stay in the hospital for this so you can recover at home the same day. How long the procedure takes depends on which method is used, how much change is needed, and whether or not other procedures are done simultaneously.

Significant Change

Breast Lift Results

To get long-lasting breast lift results, you should keep your weight steady and live a healthy lifestyle. As the swelling goes down and your breasts settle into place over the first few months, you'll start to see the final results of your breast lift surgery. After a breast lift Los Angeles patients can experience the confidence boost you've been looking for, so you can show off your new, younger-looking breasts.

Take Time to Heal

Breast Lift Recovery and Aftercare

All mastopexy techniques are outpatient procedures, and you will return home the same day. You will be slightly bruised and swollen for a couple of weeks, and managing swelling is an important part of the healing process. Dr. Christie requires post-surgical support bras to aid in swelling process, and frequent visits are scheduled so Dr. Christie and her team can keep a close eye on the healing process. Most breast lift patients are able to return to work within 1-2 weeks. You will have weight lifting restrictions for 4-6 weeks. Post-operative scar protocols are individualized to give you the least amount of scarring possible.

Breast LiftFrequently Asked Questions

There are four different breast lift techniques Dr. Christie utilizes:

Periareolar mastopexy — this technique involves an incision around the areola and is best for patients with mild ptosis that do not require narrowing of the breast. The pros of this technique is minimal incision burden. This lift can be combined with implant and/or internal bra technique.

Inverted-T Mammaplasty — this technique is the most commonly performed worldwide and is a powerful way of reshaping the breast to a customized breast width and height of breast footprint. This procedure results in a scar around the areola down the breast and hidden within the inframammary fold. Dr. Christie understands the power of change in shape from this technique that enhances the way you look not just naked, but in clothing. Dr. Christie controls the scarring by paying attention to removing all tension from incisions to give you the best possible thin scarring.

Internal bra mastopexy — this technique involves either of the above techniques, however with the use of a support system. This technique is best for patients who have aged skin quality and/or heavy weight of breasts/implant or for revision mastopexy.

Vertical lift mastopexy — this technique is similar to an Inverted-T mastopexy, with the exception of no inframammary scar. This technique is for patients who have minimal skin excess.

Dr. Christie takes into account all of your concerns, such as the shape and size you want, and scar burden. She will go over your options and tell you the pros and cons of each.

You may absolutely achieve a beautiful shape without the need for implants. The point of a lift is to remove excess skin and help reposition your breasts on your chest wall. You will not have an improvement in volume, and sometimes you may perceive that your breasts are smaller in volume after a lift. These are topics of discussion during consultation with Dr. Christie.

Dr. Christie takes great care to not disrupt ductal tissue during breast lift surgery. As such, this surgery should not affect your ability to breastfeed. However, in general, breast surgery can theoretically affect your ability to breastfeed.

Stretch marks on the breast signal damaged skin quality (whether from pregnancy, weight gain, or rapid growth of breasts in puberty). Dr. Christie takes these details into account when choosing the appropriate mastopexy technique, as this may signal the need for an internal support system.

Scars take one year to remodel and settle into their final results. However, Dr. Christie takes a preventative approach to scarring and as a board-certified plastic surgeon, has an in-depth knowledge of neocollagenesis and will guide you to products or treatments that maximize your healing process.
